Join us for Todd Kessler Presents: Songwriters in the Round at Hey Nonny! Hosted by Todd Kessler, this monthly event features a different group of singer-songwriters for each performance. Join the circle and get an up close and personal musical experience.
June features Todd’s featured artist Meagan Hickman with Heather Styka and Nicole Amine.
Meagan Hickman’s first full-length album “SIGHTLINES“ was released in 2015 and brought her diverse audiences a blend of soulful, pop-rock driven anthems such as “Seize the Day,” “He’s my Man” and “Love the Love”. With catchy hooks, memorable grooves, and honest lyrics, her music sheds light on life’s daily obstacles and human struggles; urging listeners to alter their perceptions to create new and fresh perspectives.
With her new album North, Chicago songwriter Heather Styka is headed in the right direction. Styka dances where others fear to tread, cutting to the truth with gutsy vulnerability. She combines the lyrical intricacy of folk with a catchy melodic pop sensibility and the grit of classic country in songs that are smart and disarming. Call it folk, call it Americana, call it alt-country, but Styka’s heartfelt croon draws as much inspiration from classic warblers such as Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald as it does from Gillian Welch.
Nicole Amine is a singer, songwriter, and musician based in Chicago, Illinois. Growing up in Metro Detroit, Nicole was immersed in Motown, soul, and rock music at an early age. After moving to Chicago in 2012 in pursuit of a Vocal Performance degree from Columbia College, Nicole began to explore her deep love of the blues, which reflected heavily in her style and songwriting. She’s since found her voice performing her original music (solo and with her band) and attending shows at various venues around Chicago including rich involvement in the Chicago DIY scene. She’s recently released her third and final single “Trapped” before her debut EP in 2019.
Calling Todd Kessler a singer/songwriter simply wouldn’t do him justice. The rising folk-rock star is the consummate storyteller, with a remarkable ability to take listeners on a winding, wonderful, and introspective journey through the depths of the human experience.
