ABOUT STATION 23:
STATION 23 was one of eight songwriters who received the “Best New Songwriter” recognition at the 57th SONGWRITERS Showcase presented by the SONGWRITERS HALL of FAME, Billboard Magazine and the National Academy of Popular Music alongside Stefani Germanotta (Lady Gaga), Wendy Starland and Rachel Platten. STATION 23 crosses musical borders by blending the strings of acoustic folk, the vigor of contemporary pop and the latitude of modern rock. STATION 23 has been described as “honest, evocative, and an engaging fresh new sound” by Roberta Zlokower from “On the Arts” in NYC. “They can really rock with ROCK,” says Gary Stephens from the Associated Press. STATION 23 was conceived by Erika Weander, Pete Romano, Ben Healy, Tod Hedrick and Ryan Cavan. The band performed regularly in New York City at THE BITTER END, B.B.
KING’S, BIRDLAND, ENCORE, The FRIAR’S CLUB, The MERCURY LOUNGE, CRASH MANSION, KENNY’S CASTAWAYS and The TRIAD.
ABOUT DARREN GARVEY:
Darren Garvey is well-loved for passionately supporting and collaborating with artists in the indie-pop and folk scene for over 20 years. Regardless of his role, he always works for the betterment of a song. He sings and plays drums/percussion as a member of Elephant Revival and has produced music for Daniel Rodriguez, The Lumineers, Daniel and the Lion, Nathaniel Riley, Trapper Schoepp, and Sound of Honey among others.
Adam Duritz from Counting Crows describes Garvey as “an absolute artist,” praising his ability “to play with a band acoustically and just invent.” His bandmate Dango Rose calls him “a lighthouse” and singer-songwriter Carolyn Hunter says playing with Garvey “makes everything sound and feel so easy.”
For Garvey, songs come from somewhere—an instrument, the confluence of two rivers, a scribble in his daughter’s sketchbook. Take “Only the River,” a song that came from listening to the rush of the St. Vrain behind his house. Or “As A Scribble,” the title track from his forthcoming album that evokes the wonder of child’s play and the messiness of life. Inspired by LGBTQ+ friends and family, Garvey penned “No Love Is Wrong,” a song about how “the shine of the sun finds everyone” regardless of who or how they love. This speaks to an overarching theme in his music—finding positivity in times of unrest. After surfacing on over 200 albums by other artists, this new collection of songs center Garvey as a singer, songcrafter and seasoned multi-instrumentalist.
Garvey came out of the Chicago scene in the late 90s and has drummed for bands at Red Rocks, The Ryman, The Gorge, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame while performing solo at venues such as The Living Room (NYC), Schubas (Chicago), eTown Hall (Boulder), and Al’s Den (Portland). He has primarily worked with Elephant Revival, The Shook Twins, and Daniel Rodriguez along with Midwestern mainstays Trapper Schoepp, Miles Nielsen & The Rusted Hearts, Cameron McGill & What Army, Daniel and the Lion, Courtney Hartman, Ernie Hendrickson, Andreas Kapsalis Trio, Cory Chisel and The Wandering Sons, and Chicago Farmer.
